ICON’s 3D printed homes in austin are now complete and on the market

THE FIRST 3D PRINTED HOMES ON SALE IN THE USA

with first visualizations revealed earlier this year, ICON‘s newest 3D printed homes in austin are now complete! the development comprises four homes, two of which sold within days of their unveiling in march. the two remaining houses are still on the market, for sale by 3strands and DEN property group.

designed by logan architecture, the homes range from two-bedroom to four-bedrooms types,  and are located in the heart of austin, texas. each home is divided between two stories. the first level is 3D printed using ICON’s vulcan construction system with advanced material that is stronger and longer-lasting than traditional building materials. ICON notes that this strategy has proven to be safer and more resilient, withstanding both fire and flood.

a new way to build

3D printed by ICON and designed by logan architecture , the homes are nestled in the fast-growing neighborhood of east austin. the two houses which remain available for sale include ‘unit 1’ (4 bedroom, 3 bath) and ‘unit 3’ (4 bedroom, 4 bath). all four homes are designed with large covered front porches, covered parking, open concept floor plans, bespoke interior design, vaulted master bedrooms, large north-facing windows, secluded office/bedrooms, and minimalist architectural language.

FUTURE-BUILT, NATURE-INSPIRED

each of ICON’s 3D printed homes show interior finishes and fixtures selected by austin-based designer claire zinnecker. in the design of the spaces she expresses influence from nature, merging ICON’s modern technology with the organic, traditional language of the southwest. noting the structure’s more natural materiality including wood, metal, and concrete, claire chose a simplified color palette of green, white, and terracotta together with fixtures that play off the natural materials.

claire zinnecker continues the theme of ‘natural inspiration’ toward the bathroom, pulling in soft greens, terracotta and marble. each bathroom is at once unique and fluid with the rest of the design. she incorporated her custom glazed saltillo tile line from local austin company clay imports into some of the homes. the vision ensures that upon entering each unique home, homeowners feel immediately inspired and relaxed.
